Political Climate and and anti-trans legislation
Thanks to all that attended our April meeting. Today we discussed the political targeting of trans communities by Republican legislators and governors in several states. In NH, we discussed that all but one anti-trans bill had been quashed. Currently only the forced out bill remains active and will be voted on in the next two weeks. We shared information about 603 Equality’s upcoming phone banking events regarding the proposed legislation.
We also discussed the Travel Advisory put out by Equality Florida regarding recent anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ legislation. We discussed how we were safety planning with trans college students who may be returning to a state where there have been an erosion of rights. ACLU has a legislation tracker for attacks on LGBTQ rights that is helpful tool to stay current. Equality Texas also has up to date information on the current status of the governor’s directive to categorize gender affirming care as child abuse. We also discussed the Missouri executive order that is currently blocked that restricts gender affirming care for minors and adults.
Upcoming trainings
We also shared information about two upcoming transgender trainings, one cosponsored by the University of NH and the Rhode Island Trans Conference.
Website updates and our next meeting dates
As always, we made space to share resources and consult. We’ve added several new resources to our provider list including a new physical therapist, a new therapist, information on grants for transition-related expenses, and links to resources lists for other states in New England. We also shared that our website has continued to grow in popularity in 2023, with an average of 300 visitors a month.
Our next two meetings will be on July 28 and October 23, 2023 from 12p-1p. If you aren’t already on our member email list and would like to join us, please contact us.
